about

I wrote this while looking at a huge painting by Ben McLaughlin,
Suited men in the desert, it conjured up a sense of being lost inside ones own skin.

lyrics

Lost In the Desert

Weather is on the way
And the desert sky is blue and green and gray
Shadows are long at the end of the day
Im counting every grain of sand
Searching for the ocean
Somebody told me
I’d find water out here

Out here in the desert
I’m small in the desert
I’m lost in the desert
But my shadow stands tall

What about you my friend
Are you ever going back again
Or are you just a counter like me?
Did the city bite too hard
Were you sick and tired of searching for stars?
They’re here by the million
You can count them all

You count stars in the desert
Heal your scars in the desert
Plant you feet in the desert
And watch your shadow grow tall

We could line a row of chairs
Make believe we’re waiting on some friends
And cry it’s a shame, they never came
But they’d never understand
Counting stars or grains of sand
Searching for water
In a place where the rain don’t even fall

I found peace I the desert
Heard my heartbeat in the desert
I plant my feet in the desert
And I watch my shadow grow tall
I count stars in the desert
And grains of sand in the desert
I search for water in the desert
A place where the rain don’t even fall
