Someones Crying In The Night Again The echoes in the canyon That’s just the sound of my words Bouncing off the walls like hot house birds Trying to get in trying to get out Going crazy wondering what its all about And there are Nocturnal shark toothed fish in your tears They’ve been around for millions of years And they sting and they burn and they bite And that’s why crying hurts more at night They try to get in they try to get out They’re going crazy wondering what its all about Come now whisper in my ear Speak low so your mama can’t hear You say you’ve got something living in your blood Something that’s just no good it’s no good They try to get in they try to get out They’re going crazy wondering what its all about Stinging, burning, biting Someone’s crying in the night again Stinging, burning, biting Someone’s crying in the night again And those suicide bombers with their dynamite vests Dying to get something off their chests Im not my mamas brightest son But ill bet you 10-1 That’ll get it done They try to get in they try to get out They’re going crazy wondering what its all about And if you’re black, you get a bullet in the back And if you’re brown, they’re gonna shoot you down And if you’re white, they got you in their sights Looks like the cops these days are just itching for a fight They try to get in they try to get out They’re going crazy wondering what its all about Stinging, burning, biting Someone’s crying in the night again Stinging, burning, biting Someone’s crying in the night again There’s blood on the glass Scarlet feathers in the grass And the flowers that are growing inside Continue to thrive They tried to get in they tried to get out And they died wondering what it’s all about

C Train 03:30
C Train Waited for the C train, it took me down town I bought some guitar strings, a couple other little things Had breakfast at the coffee shop, eggs were cold the waitress was hot A fat tip for her skinny ass, you pay now for the things that pass Went to the record store spent some money spent some more $20 before I left my door, New York City aint a friend to the poor It’s all just things to do and deep down we know it Take your money throw it out the window Let the new York City wind Just blow it away I aint got a T.V. I aint even got a radio I read it in a magazine while my second cup of coffee was going down slow There are people cutting babies from the belly of a dinosaur They clean and salt and pack and jar leave history bleeding On the fishing boat floor And we all need longer arms We keep reaching for something better Everybody knows the grass is greener yeah, whatever It’s all just things to do and deep down we know it Take your dream throw it out the window Let the New York City wind Just blow it away Big City wind blow my dreams New York City I’m giving in I’m feeling alive and your skies Are big enough to hold all of the stars That fell from my eyes Turn ‘em back on and make them shine Waiting for the C train, to take me home again Construction on the underground ive got to catch the D And take the long way round But it’s all just things to do so I guess it don’t matter If I get home by 2 O’clock or if I get home by 20 after Take your dream throw it out the window Let the big City wind Just blow it away

Water 03:28
Water (lyrics) Just like water I am an only child And I’ve been spilled so many times I’m hard to recognize Oh my mother, she did her best by me And she gave me a name that she thought would somehow Set me free So I learned to run, And I learned to fall And to evaporate in the sun like was never here at all chorus Every time I fall I feel nothing When I fall down I feel nothing at all Every time I run I feel nothing When I run from you I’ll feel nothing at all Cos I’ve learned to live with my lies I met a woman, and of course I thought I could do better So I loved her and then I left her She said “Water, you’re not much of a giver Running in and out of peoples lives like a river” I said “ill be gone before the morning comes So you don’t have to worry about me wanting your sister Cos I’ve already kissed her, goodbye, Goodbye’ Every time I run I feel nothing Every time I fall I feel nothing When I fall down I feel nothing at all Every time I run I feel nothing When I run from you I’ll feel nothing at all Cos I’ve learned to live with my lies Water oh running water x2 But ill never leave you I said Ill always be with you Either falling from the sky or falling from your eye Ill always be with you Every time I fall I feel nothing When I fall down I feel nothing at all Every time I run I feel nothing When I run from you I’ll feel nothing at all Cos I’ve learned to live with my lies

Home 03:46
Home You’ll never know the way that I trembled darling ‘The night that I came here and scattered my crumbs in your garden The Joy I found, I found in this place The joy I found I found in this dark and lonely space With one star shining to light the road And I prayed for birds cos I didn’t want to go home And the ants ate the bee in the dark where the shadows were fading There was nothing sweet about the way that my world was changing And the joy I found I found in this place The joy I found I found in this dark and lonely space With one star shining as bright as the blistering sun And the birds I prayed would come came One by one by one by one by one I didn’t want to go home And the joy I found I found in this place The joy I found I found in this dark and lonely space With one star shining to light the way And the darkest birds decend The birds of song and the birds of prey I didn’t want to go home

The Forgotten War Oh Maria bring the bucket bring the mop There’s blood in the kitchen you’ve got to help me clean it up Papa’s out cold and the bleeding wont stop He cut of his trigger finger Ever since Korea he aint been the same I swear Maria theres a battle in his brain He wakes up screaming every night it’s just the same He cut off his trigger finger Oh Maria what we gonna do? When he wakes up when he come to Better get a bottle better make it two He cut off his trigger finger He tried to hide in a bottle but we watched him go bad What you supposed to do with all that pain He tried to hide in a bottle bur we watched him go bad He cut off his trigger finger You remember the first time his unit deployed He came home with a bad case of soldiers joy Rode the mainline train goodbye soldier boy Hello soldiers joy Soldiers joy aint no weekend pass It aint a couple hundred dollars for pills and grass It aint a hard on for a piece of ass That aint no soldiers joy Soldiers joy is the hollow eyed shell It’s the ghost of the man I knew so well He’s just floating around like a ring looking for a bell That’s soldiers joy He tried to hide in a bottle but we watched him go bad What you supposed to do with all that pain He tried to hide in a bottle bur we watched him go bad He cut off his trigger finger Oh Maria bring the bucket bring the mop

Whole Life Blues Daddy was a singer daddy was a drunk Just a drunken singer He was murdered in a flop house broke and drunk Now he’s broke and drunk forever I never heard my mother sing a note Well maybe once when she was cooking A bum like my daddy got so lucky once Cos she was so good looking She took a nail, she hit it with a hammer There it is in the wall and it’ll be there forever You can hand your favorite photograph Hand your favorite cup Take a trip through what’s come to pass Drink it up My mothers brother met my father when they were in prison When he got out he gave his sister a call He introduced them It was nineteen sixty something And everything was upside down And jailbirds with pretty words Could melt a young girls heart down He took a nail, hit it with a hammer There it is in the wall it’ll be there forever Grabbed his jacket, put on his walking shoes Was last seen 6ft under Singing the “I wasted my whole life blues” The coldest heart that love has ever known Passed itself off as a fire burning out of control How are you supposed to know If the love you give to the one you’re with Is gonna be allowed to grow He took a nail, hit it with a hammer There it is in the wall it’ll be there forever Grabbed his jacket, put on his walking shoes Was last seen 6ft under Singing the “I wasted my whole life blues” Daddy was a singer daddy was a drunk He was murdered in a flop house broke and drunk Now he’s broke and drunk forever.

Swing Low 02:42
Swing Low Down in the lowland the lowland low Hiding away from the rain and snow I watch the sun go down I sing “The Death of Queen Jane” Even the little turtle dove in the pines Is crying your name It was a bright and a sunny summers day Last time I saw you walking away I never dreamed dear id never see your face again I’d never taste your kiss I’d never feel the touch of your skin Swing low, swing low sweet chariot and take me home I’d rather die than live alone You can bury these dry bones in the lowland low Spring into summer, Summer to fall Fall into winter the seasons just crawl Without you dear I got nothing at all I sing “The Death of Queen Jane” While I wait for the hammer to fall Swing low, swing low sweet chariot and take me home I’d rather die than live alone You can bury these dry bones in the lowland low

Lost In the Desert Weather is on the way And the desert sky is blue and green and gray Shadows are long at the end of the day Im counting every grain of sand Searching for the ocean Somebody told me I’d find water out here Out here in the desert I’m small in the desert I’m lost in the desert But my shadow stands tall What about you my friend Are you ever going back again Or are you just a counter like me? Did the city bite too hard Were you sick and tired of searching for stars? They’re here by the million You can count them all You count stars in the desert Heal your scars in the desert Plant you feet in the desert And watch your shadow grow tall We could line a row of chairs Make believe we’re waiting on some friends And cry it’s a shame, they never came But they’d never understand Counting stars or grains of sand Searching for water In a place where the rain don’t even fall I found peace I the desert Heard my heartbeat in the desert I plant my feet in the desert And I watch my shadow grow tall I count stars in the desert And grains of sand in the desert I search for water in the desert A place where the rain don’t even fall

The Hurting 02:48
The Hurting Every song on the radio every show on the T.V. is about me I can’t listen cos I fall apart I cant look cos it breaks my heart Someone’s doing something bad to someone And someone’s just hurting I sang about love before I guess I didn’t know what I was taking about Cos now I got a pain and I can’t cut out The hurting I cried for three weeks straight I couldn’t eat for seven days I couldn’t breath, my heart was drowning itself Inside of it’s own cage I poured tears into ears down the phone To anyone who was home And I prayed those tears would never end Cos I couldn’t bear to be alone With the hurting Oh someone’s doing something bad To someone, somewhere And someone’s Just hurting I can’t get it out of my head it’s the only thing I’m thinking about Your sticky tongues your eager hand oh your filthy mouth But I’ll carry the blame im throwing up my hands I pushed and I pushed til something gave Now I’m forever damned With the hurting Oh someone’s doing something bad To someone, somewhere And someone’s Just hurting

about

Ive been trying to record something as simple and direct as this album forever but there are always a million choices and the studio can turn you into a kid in a candy store. Doing nothing is often the hardest choice, well this time i did nothing except sing and try not to think too much.
This is pretty much what ill be singing the next time you see me live or if you invite me to sing for my supper in your kitchen, so please consider doing just that. I hope you enjoy this collection of new songs, older revisited and traditional songs as much as i enjoyed singing them.
Thanks to Brandon Wilde at Studio 76 in Brooklyn NYC for making recording such an effortless joy, and also thanks to Anthony Mulcahy (AKA "some random Irish man") for taking the photos and for tirelessly supporting live music all over the world.

I even included the lyrics with this one.

about

Warren Malone New York, New York

"Warren Malone has created an absolutely amazing album.“And The Ants Ate The Bee” never sounds the same twice/absolutely spellbinding/each listen feels fresh and different/The album is like a audio kaleidoscope/And then there’s that voice…an entirely unique instrument that sounds like a slightly androgynous soul singer/this album deserves repeated spins."
