about

Here is a short album of traditional songs that I recorded long ago late at night on a minidisc Walkman with a $50 mic. It was recorded while my new baby was sleeping. Getting an album on a streaming platform was not an option at the time and pressing CDs seemed a little extravagant for a project that cost about $1 to make.
I try to make something creative at every opportunity and often that means working within certain parameters and this was no different, there’s an intimate vibe to this collection because the very basic recording setup couldn’t really handle my full on vocal sound and also the recordings were made while the world was asleep. but crisis = opportunity and I’ve always liked these tracks and meant to re-record them at some point but yesterday while suffering from a stomach bug and nursing a fever it occurred to me that they were what they were and I should just put them out, I’d never get the same vibe again, in fact if I attempted this trick today there would be sirens and jack hammers on every track (not necessarily a bad thing but different for sure)
Anyway here it is SALVAGE a short intimate collection of folk songs performed solo except one instrumental that features a fiddle player that I met for a minute and a 6 month old Gibson Malone complaining at the very end.

"Warren Malone has created an absolutely amazing album.“And The Ants Ate The Bee” never sounds the same twice/absolutely spellbinding/each listen feels fresh and different/The album is like a audio kaleidoscope/And then there’s that voice…an entirely unique instrument that sounds like a slightly androgynous soul singer/this album deserves repeated spins."
